During the Western Conference semifinals between the Denver Nuggets and the Oklahoma City Thunder, Nikola Jokic’s performance has become a hot topic as his shooting efficiency has dropped noticeably. Interim head coach David Adelman did not hesitate to openly discuss the challenges Jokic is facing.

Over the last three games prior to Game 5, Jokic’s field goal percentage fell to just 33%—a surprisingly low figure for a reigning MVP. Notably, in Game 3, Jokic scored only 20 points on 25 attempts, missed all 10 of his three-point shots, and committed eight turnovers. Despite these struggles, he still contributed 16 rebounds and six assists, helping the Nuggets secure a narrow overtime victory.

Adelman acknowledged Jokic’s frustration and pointed to the Thunder’s aggressive defense as a key factor:

“He’s frustrated. When the opponent is playing physical defense in the paint, there’s contact, and Jokic knows what to do, but he’s not getting the calls. He’s watched the film, but 10-for-25 shooting in the paint isn’t good enough…”

Nevertheless, Adelman expressed unwavering confidence in his Serbian center:

“The important thing is: he keeps shooting. No matter what his efficiency is that night, the ball will find him. We trust Jokic to carry this team through the series.”

The coach also remained optimistic and supportive:

“I understand why Jokic is frustrated. When you’re one of the most efficient players in history, going through a rough patch isn’t easy. But Game 4 is coming, and I hope he keeps shooting and continues to create opportunities for his teammates.”

Jokic himself candidly admitted to his struggles, attributing them to a combination of factors: the Thunder’s physical, tactical defense and his own missed open looks.

Despite the playoff pressure, Jokic remains the focal point for the Nuggets. Coach Adelman and the entire team continue to place their faith in his ability to bounce back and lead them in the crucial games ahead.
