In contrast, Denver opted to retain Spencer Jones by extending a two-way qualifying offer, making him a restricted free agent starting July 1st. The undrafted Stanford product showed defensive versatility that impressed the organization despite modest offensive numbers, averaging 1.3 points in 20 games during his rookie campaign.
The qualifying offer allows the Nuggets to match any offer Jones receives from other teams, providing them control over his future while evaluating his development potential. If no external offers materialize, Jones can sign the one-year qualifying offer to remain with Denver.
These moves reflect the Nuggets' broader strategy to retool around three-time MVP Nikola Jokić following their second-round playoff exit to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
