BREAKING: Nuggets Owner’s 2-Word Statement on Michael Porter Jr. Trade Rumors is Quite Telling

April 16, 2025

The Denver Nuggets have already started the efforts to remodel their franchise. Firing Michael Malone and Calvin Booth was the first step in that process. The big question is what happens this offseason with the roster.

The Nuggets have a playoff run to compete in first. However, with the franchise being in this state of flux, not many are looking to them as contenders at the moment.

Instead, the focus has been on which of the dominoes tips over next. Conversations like those have made Michael Porter Jr. a point of focus during the discussions.

Marc Stein and Jake Fischer recently delivered a report in which the NBA insider suggested that Porter Jr. was very safe in his place of work. The article said that the Nuggets forward had some key ties which made him unlikely to be a trade candidate.

“The Kroenkes have a fondness for Porter that stems from deep ties to their shared alma mater: Missouri. Sources with knowledge of Denver’s thinking have maintained for some time that they struggled to envision ownership ever approving a deal that would send Porter away from the franchise.”

However, a recent press conference by Josh Kroenke offered him an opportunity to call the report ‘completely false.’ Kroenke continued with the following statement.

“I don’t know where that person got their sources from but I’m surely not gonna be greenlighting any trades around here when I don’t see complete organizational cohesion and we’re not maximizing the group we got.”

It sounds like Kroenke, by his own words, will be cautious when handling the roster. However, the confidence with which the refusal of the report was delivered may suggest that a big roster move, like that of Porter, will not be ruled out.
