BREAKING: Trump Calls for a Special Prosecutor to Investigate His 2020 Election Loss
The president promised in 2023 that he would mandate a special prosecutor to “go after” Biden and his family
President Donald Trump is demanding that a special prosecutor be appointed in order to investigate his 2020 election loss, based on his disproven claims that “MASSIVE and OVERWHELMING” fraud was responsible for Joe Biden’s victory.
“Biden was grossly incompetent, and the 2020 election was a total FRAUD! The evidence is MASSIVE and OVERWHELMING. A Special Prosecutor must be appointed,” Trump wrote Friday morning on Truth Social. “This cannot be allowed to happen again in the United States of America! Let the work begin!”
The president claimed that his successor and predecessor had lost the election “by a landslide.” Trump’s repeated lies about the 2020 election have for years fueled countless conspiracy theories, and even inspired a mob of rioters to attack the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to block the certification of Biden’s election on Jan. 6, 2021.
In reality, over 60 lawsuits filed by the Trump campaign alleging voting irregularities and fraud were dismissed over a lack of stranding or evidence. An Associated Press review of voting irregularities alleged by Trump in six battleground states found less than 500 cases of potentially fraudulent ballots cast in 2020 — a number nowhere near large enough to tip the balance of the election to Biden.
Last year, Trump-appointed Florida District Court Judge Eileen Cannon sided with Trump’s legal team when they argued that the former Special Counsel Jack Smith was illegally appointed to investigate Trump following his departure from office. Cannon and Trump’s legal team claimed that the only Congress or the president — not the head of the Justice Department — could create such an appointment.
Friday’s Truth Social post seems to indicate the president intends to fulfill a promise he made to his supporters in 2023: that if he ever reclaimed the White House, he would appoint a “real special prosecutor to go after the most corrupt president in the history of the United States of America, Joe Biden. And the entire Biden crime family.”
Trump appears ready now to initiate that bullshit investigation based on his widely disproven claims, one way or another.
