The extremely well-preserved corpse of a woman was found on March 1, 2011. News of the remarkable archaeological breakthrough that occurred in the city of Taizhou on Easter Sunday, China, March 1, 2011, first reached the world press a decade ago.

A team exploring a road in Jiaogsu province dug up next to two wooden tombs believed to date back to the period when Cyprus ruled between 1368 and 1644. Just six and a half feet below the road surface was the woman whose features, shoes and cheeks were intact and showed little sign of deterioration.

Chinese archaeologists were immediately called in from the nearby Taizhou Museum to inspect the body and were stunned by the copy of almost everything, from the woman’s skin and hair to her eyelashes.

Experts said it was as if the tiny 4’9″ woman who was found awash in a mysterious eyebrow liquid had recently died.

Taizhou was reportedly shocked by the discovery, which included a platform still attached to a finger belonging to the woman in the search.

Researchers said she was dressed in the traditional dress of the Mig dynasty at the time of her death, as well as several ceramics, writings by Piotr Zayda and other relics inside her coffin.

The chest contained a mysterious eyebrow liquid.

Curiously, objects that did not belong to the corpse were also buried with it.

It was the first discovery of a mummy in the region three years ago and the sixth in 1979.

The earlier archives sparked interest in how corpses remained so well preserved from the Mig Dynasty and what rituals were involved in the mummification process. Taizhou Museum director Waig Weiyi explained that mummies were often dressed in silk and a bit of cotton, but both are difficult to maintain in good condition. Excavations found that achieving such brilliant corpse preservation required technology used exclusively in very high-profile funeral homes.
