Global Impact: Chinese Boy Accidentally Discovers 66 Million-Year-Old Dinosaur Eggs, Revealing Prehistoric Secrets!
Chinese boy accidentally finds 66 million-year-old dinosaur eggs
Beijing Youth Daily revealed that a 9-year-old primary school student from Heyuan, Guangdong Province, in southern China, accidentally discovered what he suspected to be a dinosaur egg fossil while playing with his mother on the riverbank in the city center.
Third-grader Zhang Yangzhe (pictured) made the extraordinary discovery while playing on the bank of the Dong River in Heyuan, Guangdong Province, southern China.
Huang Zhiqing, deputy director of the research department of the Heyuan Dinosaur Museum, said they rushed to the scene with the police after receiving the news.
In total, 11 “stone eggs” were excavated, each about 9 centimeters in diameter, which were later verified as dinosaur eggs and dated to the late Cretaceous, according to the local museum.
Huang Zhiqing said that houses were built on the site where the dinosaur eggs were discovered, so the ground becomes softer over time. Dinosaur egg fossils that remain in good condition despite water and erosion are extremely rare.
Huang Zhiqing said the museum will arrange staff to clean and repair these dinosaur egg fossils. They will also look for a suitable time to re-examine and further excavate the abutment.
“Maybe we will discover new things,” Huang Zhiqing said.
Li said that children’s recognition of dinosaur eggs is inseparable from their upbringing.
“Maybe because of the city atmosphere, he is full of curiosity about everything related to dinosaurs,” he said, adding that he goes to libraries and museums to look for information that he finds interesting.
