Shocking! 2,000-Year-Old Yde Girl’s Body Still Perfectly Preserved – Scientists Reveal Astonishing Secrets About Ancient Life and Mysterious Rituals
A fascinating discovery has given rise to a great historical mystery that has lasted thousands of years. Back in May 1897, two workers working in Yde, the Netherlands, found the excellently preserved body of a little girl while dredging a peat bog.
Of course, this is “excellent” by archaeological standards. Looking at the body, it’s obvious that it has a bad case of “being buried in a bog for thousands of years” but by archaeological standards, it’s an incredible compilation.
One thing that is striking is that even though the body is shrunken and mummified, her bright red hair looks as if it has almost been swept off the hair salon floor.

They discovered that the girl had a noose tied around her neck and what appeared to be a stab wound to her neck. Half of her hair had also been cut off and some of her teeth were missing. All of this indicated that she had suffered a violent death. Eventually, the local mayor ordered that the remains be gathered together and placed in the museum for examination and research. Unfortunately, it took some time to shed more light on this heartbreaking discovery.

Evidence also indicated that she had suffered from a severe case of scoliosis and was around four and a half feet tall. One gruesome theory suggested that this may have been a factor in her early death. It is still unclear exactly how the girl died, however Dr Roy Vaп Beek from Wageпiпgeп University has postulated a few theories.
He said: “Two theories have been put forward. The first is that these were people who did not live according to customary norms. The bodies were perhaps people who had been convicted of serious crimes or found guilty of adultery. The second, more widely held explanation is that they were sacrifices to a higher power.” He added: “We know that the landscape of the region was a mosaic of remote highland and lowland forests, grasslands and Celtic field systems. “People settled on moraine ridges that remained dry all year round. The girl may have originated from a nearby settlement on the Yde ridge.
“His body was dumped in a small, relatively shallow swamp about a mile away.”
