What did the ancient Italians see from the sky that etched the image of the “astronauts” in stone 10,000 years ago? The mystery still awaits solution in Val Camonica!

In 2024, a team of archaeologists and researchers from the University of Milan carried out a detailed study in the Val Camonica valley in northern Italy, a place recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site thanks to its unique stone engravings. Among the more than 140,000 carvings, some have attracted particular attention because they seem to represent extraterrestrial figures, with round helmets, space suits and floating objects around.

These engravings, dating from around 8,000 BC. C., not only demonstrate ancient sculpture techniques, but also raise unanswered questions. In the photos, the two main characters are standing, holding objects that look like shiny tools or weapons. In particular, their heads are surrounded by circles like the helmets of modern astronauts.

Many scientists believe that these drawings may simply represent ancient gods or important figures in the beliefs of indigenous Stone Age people. However, researchers pursuing the ancient astronaut theory have put forward a bolder hypothesis: could this be evidence of communication with extraterrestrial creatures in the past?

The circles around the head and the suit imitating the body do not resemble Stone Age hunting suits, which raises more questions. Another interesting point is that these characters often appear near symbols that in the modern imagination look like comets or spaceships.

Using Lidar scanning techniques and 3D image processing, the research team reconstructed all the details of these engravings. They discovered that the details of the “helmet” and “suit” actually appeared to be carved with the intention of emphasis, suggesting that they were not a coincidence in petroglyph art.

Additionally, chemical analysis of the surrounding rock layers shows that the valley was once a cultural center where many ceremonies related to astronomical phenomena took place. Some experts even wonder if the ancients observed something special in the sky that led them to create these images.

Scientists are now trying to compare these engravings with similar artifacts discovered in other civilizations such as Sumeria, Egypt or even the Nazca motifs in Peru. The goal is to find similarities and decipher the true meaning of Val Camonica’s strange drawings.
